Evening primrose oil provides a natural source of the important omega-6 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Some people may not get enough gamma-linolenic acid in their diet and may benefit from supplementing with this nutrient.

Evening primrose is also known as evening primrose. The flowers of evening primrose bloom slowly in the evening and wither at dawn. The flowers only bloom for one night. Legend has it that their blooms are specially for the moon to appreciate, which is how the name evening primrose comes from.

Evening primrose oil is obtained from evening primrose seeds and is rich in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid). Gamma-linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid that cannot be synthesized by the human body and must be ingested from the outside. It is "processed" in the human body into a substance similar to the hormone (prostaglandin E1).
